30th Century Man comes to Denver

30th Century Man, the first documentary made about Scott Walker, just opened at the Starz Film Center in Denver. You might recognize the film's namesake track from the soundtrack to "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou".

Scott Walker started making music with the Walker Brothers in the 60s. They moved to Britain and became part of the British Invasion, but when the band broke up Scott launched his own solo career. His orchestrated baroque pop and crooning voice made him very successful across the pond. David Bowie and Brian Eno were fans of his. He released several albums in late 60s and early 70s but then became quite reclusive when his commercial success came to an end. Since then each album of his has gotten weirder and weirder. For proof, check out this song off his latest album "The Drift," released by 4AD in 2006. The girl Clara mentioned in the title is in fact the mistress of Mussolini who was killed alongside him in 1945. The sounds of meat being punched are used in the song to emulate the beatings that the bodies received in Italy. As you can guess, this song is a pretty dark one.

Check out an extended trailer of the movie:

I've read lots of good reviews, but let me know what you thought if you've seen it!
